AECES Code of Ethics for Early Childhood Professionals 3rd Edition (Asynchronous E-Learning)

Overview

This 3 hour online course is designed to support early childhood and early intervention educators in understanding and applying the AECES Code of Ethics in their daily professional practice. Through interactive asynchronous e-learning, participants will explore the guiding principles, beliefs and responsibilities outlined in the Code of Ethics, and learn to apply a structured 5-step Ethical Decision-Making Process.  Self-reflection activities will prompt educators to critically examine their own practices, including the importance of self-care.

Note: This course will be conducted on SUSS UniLEARN E learning platform. Learners can complete the 3 hours of the course anytime within 2 weeks.

Learning Objectives

The 3-hour online workshop aims to translate the Code of Ethics in practice.  It is designed for EC and EI educators in order for them:

i)         To be conversant with the guiding principles that form the foundation upon our practice

ii)         To understand the rationale behind the beliefs and promote the application of responsibilities toward children, families and the profession

iii)         To apply the 5-step Ethical Decision-Making Process

Requirements for Completion

  • Complete the pre-course and post-course surveys
  • Submit a written assignment at the end of the two-week course
  • Submit a reflection journal based on Reflective Exercises 1 and 2

Who should apply

  • Beginning EC/EI educators to Deputy Centre Leader (ECDA-certified as an Ey1/Ey2/L1/L2)
  • Currently employed in a childcare centre registered or licensed with ECDA
